International French Fries

How to Order French Fries around the World

The French Fry is a part of international cuisine, but different countries have different names for them. Many also use condiments and sauces other than ketchup. This chart will help you whenever you find yourself elsewhere and in need of French Fries.

If you can help us fill this chart, please E-Mail us with the necessary information at info@officialfrenchfries.com. If it's from a country which does not use Latin letters, please be sure to use UTF-8, or attach a graphic file with the spelling/characters and a pronounciation guide.

If you see boxes instead of letters:
This means you don't have any fonts installed which can display letters in that particular language. We're considering adding clickable graphics to non-Western European language entries. If you think we should spend the time and effort on this, please send us an E-Mail.

* We only list the most popular condiments here. If we listed every possible condiment, this page would become too long and silly. Most people aren't terribly interested in what only two French Fry fans living in some suburban hell are dipping their French Fries in this week. For more on special condiments, see the condiments page.

** People from Quebec kept writing to tell us about their wonderful French Fry dish, Poutine. They also keep adding reassurances that, despite the description and appearance, it tastes good. It's these unrequested assurances which made us wonder... We were sent a care package of the important ingredients and conducted Poutine Experiments. It's still unlikely that we'll be able to day-trip to Quebec to try Poutine in its native habitat, but we would be happy to try making more Poutine if more people in Quebec would send us recipies, along with information on where to find some of the more odd ingredients, like white cheese curds. Alternatively, a few cans or bags of the stuff would also be appreciated (maybe).

***"Sib Zamini" means "potato", and just like in France and northwest Germany, "Sib" means apple and "Zamini" means "earth/dirt". "Sorch Kærdeh" means "fried".

****In Tunesia they speak both Arabic and French. It shouldn't bee too hard to guess which entry is which language.
