The Official French Fries Pages:
Condiments -- Sauce is Boss!
French Fries (in our collective expert opinion) taste just fine on their own, but we are not averse to covering (and even smothering) them in all sorts of things, from the standards like Ketchup and vinegar, to mayonnaise, mustard, hot sauce, Barbeque sauce and others.
We've decided to review some of the condiments out there to enhance our readers' French Fry enjoyment. We may even be able to help convince them to try something new.
Formula 9 Ketchup
Gourmet ketchups. That's right, gourmet.
Japanese Mayonnaise
Kewpie mayo is quite distinct and available around the world
Chile Pepper Sauces
A box of four hot sauces arrived one day...
Mayonnaise
Mayonnaise is quite popular in northern Europe, although they claim that theirs is more "mustardy" than the American version and, therefore, better. We don't neceessarily concur. We do, however, recommend fresh-ground pepper be sprinkled on French Fries when mayonnaise is used as a condiment (or even when it's not used as a condiment). We should do a review.
Mustard
One of our favourite non-ketchup condiments is mustard. Our recommendation is a darker mustard. We might specifically recommend Gulden's Spicy Brown if they want to cut a deal. We find both dijon and dill mustards not as good as brown mustards on French Fries, but they're fine in a pinch, especially dijon for steak-cut French fries. We should do a review.
Do you have a favourite sauce or condiment? Are you a manufacturer or restaurant with a condiment which is particularly good on French Fries? Send us some and we'll review it. If you make your own special sauce at home, send us the recipe and fame will be yours!
