No, I wanted French Fry Nutrition Information

As we checked through the logs to see how people were finding us, we noticed that a lot of people around the world were looking for more information on poutine, something which ought to make our Canadian readers happy. As we looked further, we saw that those same Canadian readers were trhemselves looking for more information about poutine and a number of the search engine queries were things like poutine nutrition and calories in poutine.

As we mentioned on the Questions from Searchespage, the nutrition of poutine can be rather difficut to pin down since it depends on a number of factors, from the portion size to the French fry thickness (thin = more fat) to the cheese curd source.

Since cheese curds are hard to find outside Canada it's unlikely that the average non-Great-White-Northerner will experience this delicacy outside it's native habitat, and will therefore most likely first encounter it in one of the larger chains serving Poutine. This is unfortunate since these mass-produced Poutines can't compete on quality ro price with the 14-lb. servings of fresh, homemade poutine from roadside stands like the one on Route 343 between Montreal and St-Michel-Des-Saints, not too far from St-Cme (yes, we lost that review as well), but industrialised poutine is still better than no poutine.

On with the show
Let's have a look at the restaurants, portion sizes and scores. Prices aren't included since they vary regionally. The numbers also don't take into account any condiments. This is only Poutine Nutrtion information; Fast Food French Fry Nutrition is here.

Restaurant Size Calories Cal./100g Cal. from fat Total Fat Carbohydrates Protein
A&W Small: 6.5oz/184g 440 234 234 26g 42g 13g
Large: 11.75oz/333g 780 423 47g 69g 25g
Burger King 11.7oz/332g 750 226 378 42g 74g 19g
Harvey's 10oz/284g 640 225 297 33g 67g 18g
McDonald's Small: 8oz/227g 510 225 270 30g 41g 16g
Large: 11oz/313g 710 387 43g 55g 23g
And that's about it. So far we've only been able to find these restaurants' nutrition information and not a single restaurant's ingredient listing. We are planning to once again visit the Province of Quebec where we will be able to study the poutine in both its native and fast food environs. If you work for, say, St. Hubert's promo department and are looking for a unique marketing approach, drop us a line.

The minor discrepancies in calories/100g from the same restaurant are due to rounding errors introduced when calculating portion sizes compouded by averaging those results, with differences under 00.5%. While the median seems to be around 225cal/100g, we have only a very small sample size.
