I have always been fascinated by carnival rides. It amazes me that average, ordinary people eagerly trade in the serenity of the ground for the chance to be tossed through the air like vegetables in a food processor. As a kid, I used to love the carnival that came to town every summer. I was always excited to see what new rides were offered and I had a few favorites that I looked forward to riding each year.

One of my all-time favorite rides was the Gravitron. I loved the sensation of being pinned to the wall in my seat as the ride spun faster and faster. I always thought it was funny how the ride operator would yell out, “Hold on tight!” as if that was possible with the g-forces pushing against us.

Another ride I enjoyed was the Tilt-A-Whirl. I loved the feeling of being thrown around in circles. I would watch the other riders as they screamed and laughed, their faces a mix of terror and joy.

The most exciting ride of all was the Zipper. I loved the sheer terror of being locked in a metal cage and spun around while being flipped upside down. I remember the feeling of my stomach dropping as the ride operator would give the cage an extra spin before releasing us.

These rides were a source of entertainment for me, but they also taught me important lessons. I learned that sometimes you have to take risks in life in order to experience something new and exciting. I also learned that it’s important to enjoy the ride, even when things get a little crazy.

These lessons have stayed with me throughout my life and I still look for ways to take risks and enjoy the ride. I’m sure I’ll be taking these lessons with me to college as well.
